A lot of the sounds you hear on this very fine portrait recording unraveled when Donna returned from having a child, and especially when Mickey Hart rejoined on drums….. Putignano can be contacted at: This site uses cookies. By continuing to use this website, you agree to their use.

It has a good amount of studio compression, but it does not effect quality. Show is a very good performance. I was looking forward to Jerry playing the Travis Bean guitar, because I have Dicks Picks 10 which has a long story that says that Jerry pulled out the "Wolf" guitar, for the 1st time since mid seventies, but it has pics of him playing it here.

There is a nice picture of Jerry playing the wolf in this show, actually, several pics. There are 2 things I do not like about the show, Cd set really The songs were not normalized well during mastering, you have to keep turning the volume up and down. There is no description of the show in the booklet by anyone, just pics, I like to read the knowledge about the show. The pics are nice, The show is in Rochester at the War Memorial.

Picks and Pans Review: Truth: Four Stories I Am Finally Old Enough to Tell

I love the 77 era. The hdcd is used on this CD which helps the sound quality. The crowd is really into the show, as is the Dead. It is the classic plastic box for a 3 CD show. No cracks or anything on the packaging.

Overall, it is a laidback show, but I like it. First off, to the "uninitiated," The Grateful Dead had about a thirty-year span of creating music: What you have before you is the Dead, post-Pigpen and minus one drummer, at their mellowest. Nineteen seventy-three is a banner year for those of us who like this open, slower, yet expansive Dead.

If you're more versed in say 's Dead, this might disappoint as it doesn't "rock" in the way some eras of the Dead did. There's pure magic in , but you have to slow down to appreciate it. The Dead took risks--some turned out "better' than others, but most nights they took a chance to go where most bands, then and now, wouldn't dare: So what you get here is a tight outfit that relaxes, aren't afraid to slow it down and take their time to coax musical ideas out of the song framework.

To my ears this is musical heaven, to yours--who knows? I give the band five-stars--their clearly having an "on" night, but bring the overall rating down to four stars because I feel that the audio quality is a bit dead, flat. Most deadheads get used to varying degrees of fidelity due to the amount of Audience tapes there are floating around, and in truth I can get over it, but if you compare it to the Road Trips Vol 4, no.

For those of you who prefer a "rockier" Dead, go right to or beyond, with the Grateful Dead movie soundtrack in being somewhere right in the middle, but of excellent quality, sound and performance.
