I lost my Father to Cancer in Dec. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in May He was treated the Mayo Clinic in Florida. Mayo Clinic is one of the best Cancer Treatment Centers, but regardless of how much wisdom, knowledge, or latest treatments the doctors had, I still lost my Daddy in 7 very short months. Watching my Daddy go through chemo and radiation, and hearing the doctors say over and over how healthy he was despite the massive tumor in his chest was just one of the many frustrating things we experienced.

Today, I still find myself dealing with so many emotions. Mike's journey is very honest, he shares his struggles, both physically and emotionally too. For me, walking through cancer with my Dad I recognized some things very similar in Mike's story. While they may not be exact, I loved the way my Daddy sought to gain wisdom and understanding for the place he was in at that very moment. I feel this is very true about Mike. Mike teaches along the way and has such an open heart and shares straight from his heart.

Seeing the gift in the situations, yet wrestling with them too.

Stumbling Towards Heaven is one I am very thankful to have read. It has helped me work through some of my grief of losing my Daddy. Thank you MIke, for sharing your journey with us. For being so honest, and for making me laugh too! You are an amazing man Mr. One person found this helpful. Fear, Flight, Fate, Freak, or Failure--from sufferers, families and friends alike. In Stumbling Toward Heaven, Mike Hamel rises above it all with an incredibly useful and unique approach; he's funny--and I mean really funny. Mike is a fabulous storyteller, capturing the essence of how one of life's many tragic realities cause us to re-examine the frailties of our faith.

You don't have to be afflicted or affected by cancer to derive practical benefits from this book. The occurrence of the unexpected is an experience we all share in this life. It takes a gifted writer like Mike Hamel to help us make sense of it all and have some laughs along the way. I met Mike Hamel over the Internet just around the time that his cancer was diagnosed.

Hamel, Mike

I toured his fantasy books on my blog alliance and have been in contact ever since. I love this guy. Mike is a wonderful writer. His fantasy books for tween boys are adventurous and exciting. This new non-fiction book about his on-going battle with his cells which behave badly is heartfelt and true. He doesn't spare the reader, he doesn't lie, he doesn't paint a rosy picture. What he does do is tell it like it is. He chronicled his story as it happened.

He wrote his feelings, doubts, and hopes. At the same time, he makes you laugh. His humor in a humorless situation is like a spring breeze If you know anyone with cancer, I recommend that you read this and get them a copy as well. I like this book. It's an honest look into the heart and mind of a man struggling with a life-threatening situation, and how his personal faith fares in the process.

The fact the skies don't part to reveal a miraculous deliverance in the end makes it all the more honest. That's the way it is for us all - believers and unbelievers. I also like the technical details it provides about cancer and how medical professionals fight it. It can be overwhelming to face all that on your own.

Reading how another person dealt with it is helpful. It shrinks the treatment process down to size a bit and makes it feel more "normal" in scope.

I recommend this book to others. Stumbling Toward Heaven is worth the read if for no other reason than Mike's "one-liners. Small groups are things that…. About Arras WordPress Theme.
