The Child Whisperer: The Ultimate Handbook for Raising Happy, Successful, Cooperative Children
You wonder what on Earth to do, so you get advice, read books, watch videos, ask the internet. And still, something's missing. You need a plan that addresses your child's needs, not everyone else's. Why couldn't children come with a handbook? Turns out, children are born with a handbook they are the handbook. In The Child Whisperer, bestselling author Carol Tuttle explains that children tell their parents every day exactly how they need to be parented. They tell their teachers exactly how they need to be taught.
Knowing your secondary type is almost as essential as knowing your primary type. It impacts who you are sooooo much. People who complain about how there are only 4 types, well consider this The primary type is just what you naturally feel more comfortable leading with and is a healthier option for your energy. If you believe then that truth can be found in more than 1 place you might consider that on top of your energy types and whatever percentage of each you might be not that I sit around trying to calculate it you also have your personal life and experiences that add to who you are, you also have the day you were born astrology anyone?
You might also take into account your religious beliefs. There is so much that adds to who you are as a human being. WHen you really get down to it Carol is not trying to get anyone to fit into a tiny box, on the contrary she is trying to give you permission to be who you are and not who the world says you should be. She is giving you permission to look outside of the box that the world puts you in and determine who you are and how to best serve the needs of yourself and the people around you through your gifts and abilities.

I have 6 children and 6 grandchildren and am thril I've worked in the child development field for over 28 years and have a degree in professional child care. I have 6 children and 6 grandchildren and am thrilled to have a deeper understanding of their individuality. It's so much more than just understanding a personality as other books have identified. It's about physical features, movement, ways of relating to the world and what motivates each type.
By understanding a child's true nature, you can learn to parent or teach them without wounding and stifling their natural talents, abilities and tendencies which are the things that make them amazing and wonderful. As you become a "Child Whisperer" you will learn to guide them in a positively enriching way rather than trying to change them to what you think they should be or a traditional "mold" of social expectations. Many tips throughout the book give you ideas in relating to each child's type. There is also a section on the pitfalls of traditional parenting methods and beliefs.
This is a book that every parent, grandparent, teacher, coach, daycare provider or anyone who cares about children should have on their bookshelf. If you want to see more joy and peace and a better relationship between you and a child, you need this book! Mar 10, Brooke Swift rated it it was amazing. I was a child development major in college and since then I feel like I have read every parenting book on the planet. In the last few years I have grown disenchanted with this genre.
Every book and the discipline theory behind it will work for some of my children part of the time, but nothing works for every child, every time. Of course this is because every child is different! I loved this book--devoured it in 24 hours and will keep it on my nightstand to refer to often. It finally acknowledges I was a child development major in college and since then I feel like I have read every parenting book on the planet.
It finally acknowledges that each child comes individually unique and your parenting approach should be altered to reflect that. There were so many good, specific ideas for what works with certain types of kids. Some of it, my husband and I have figured out as we've gone along and it was reaffirming that we were right to trust our instincts about certain things. But, man, I have totally been using the wrong approach with one of my children and wondering for a while why we aren't connecting. This book felt like an answer to prayer in that relationship. I liked that the book celebrates all types of people and recognizes that for every perceived weakness, there is a strength associated with it.
This book reminded me how easy it is to label my kids with the negative adjective instead of celebrating the positive adjective. Oct 11, Kira rated it it was amazing. Words cannot describe how much I love this book or how it's contents revolutionized my home and improved my parenting. I am so grateful for the knowledge in this book, and how it has helped me honor my children for their true natures, which has completely changed my home for the better.

It seems like a complete change has come about in our family overnight; there is less bickering, resistance, and struggle, and it seems as if my children are breathing a sigh of relief now that they feel they have permission to be their true selves and be respected for that. Homeschool is going much more smoothly, some of my three year old's "behavioral issues" have improved, and my heart feels freer knowing my children's true energy and being able to connect with them in a way that resonates and matters with them.
I had to return this book to the library today I even kept it a day overdue! I recommend this book to every parent, every aunt and uncle, any teacher or caregiver of children all over the world. I feel a little generous giving this book a 2, and then sometimes I feel like I'm being mean. I kind of went off the book when she started talking about what physical traits each "type" there are 4 has. Isn't that something that comes from your genes?
I found that really odd. There were some good points, and I could relate one of my children to one of her types, but as for my other 3 children, I couldn't really relate I feel a little generous giving this book a 2, and then sometimes I feel like I'm being mean. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't recommend this book. I heard so many good reviews about it, but it wasn't for me. I also agree with another review that said this book is super wordy. It could be half the length, with more getting straight to the point. Dec 26, Jennifer rated it it was amazing. However, it was missing something and didn't sit quite right in my mind, and so I've never really implemented her system. I think I've finally found what I was looking for!

Oct 09, Catherine rated it it was amazing. Many parenting books focus on specific methods to apply to all children, regardless of their individual personalities. This one-size-fits-all approach may work well for some children but not for others. Rather than becoming frustrated, what if we tailored our parenting to their true natures which Carol refers to as "types"?
For example, the words and approach we use for a "soft, sensitive child, or type 2" would be different for a "determined child, or type 3". As a parent of both types of chi Many parenting books focus on specific methods to apply to all children, regardless of their individual personalities. As a parent of both types of children, I can affirm that my type 3 child does not mind lots of noise and busy-ness so long as she is pushing towards an expected result; my type 2 child, on the other hand, needs time to assimilate to a new situation or people and does best when her need for comfort is honored.
In the book, Carol explains all four types of children please keep in mind that everyone has a mixture of types, but we all have a "dominant" way of expressing ourselves , details concerns each child may have, and provides a lot of insight on how we can best help our children become their best selves. Sep 24, Candace rated it it was amazing Shelves: I have always heard that "every child is so different" but when I go to look for a parenting book when problems come up I have only ever found "one-size-fits-all" solutions If a certain solution has worked for one of my children I now know it worked because that solution naturally honored and supported my child.
No matter the age of your child even adult children! In fact, this book will help ANY person who interacts with children regularly, including teachers, day care providers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. Jun 08, Stephanie rated it did not like it. I did not find this book worth the time. It was WAY too repetitive and could have been summed up in just a few chapters.
I also have a hard time with Tuttle making claims with no field study or peer reviews. All of her examples seem to be from friends and family. I just didn't buy into her "profiling" with face shapes. I also found it funny that she didn't want to create labels, so instead they were just "labeled" Type 1, 2, 3, and 4. I don't know - call me a "Type 4", but I just don't think it' I did not find this book worth the time. Would you also like to submit a review for this item? You already recently rated this item.
